I've Almost Convinced My Parents to Get a Hybrid

My Mom is looking for a replacement for her 160k mile Vibe GT. It’s been great, but with her commute, she’d like something less tired. Her commute would be perfect for a plug-in, so I’ve been trying to persuade her to get a hybrid. I think I’ve convinced them to get a certain one: the one with Grillz.

Anybody have any personal experience with these?

Practical, decent interior, one of the few cars on the market with a hybrid system that makes any sort of sense. Not a huge fan of the looks but you have a Fiesta so you obviously don’t care about that ;D

It’s a inoffensive hybrid sedan. why not.

I hate the Grillz, that’s about it. We might check some out this weekend, but how is the back seat? For someone that is over 5'6"?

I’d love a Volt. Even a former generation one. My commute to work is 16 miles round trip. I could go for ages without using any fuel.

I actually never sat in the back seat. I think the Greelz would look good vinyl wrapped black, honestly. Or maybe body colored.

My Mom’s is like 35, but that’s still in the range.

The back seat was reported to be pretty bad in the 1st gen. I think this one also just has the 2 bucket rear. Iirc this shares a platform with the new Cruze. So it should be decent in the back.

There is a middle seat for people with no legs now.

Is the generator programmed to run every so often so the fuel doesn’t go bad?

Is the Vibe GT a stick?

Nope. It’s sticking around though, either as my sister’s first car or my Dad’s daily driver, once he gets rid of his truck and gets something to pull our camper.

I have a ‘13 Volt. I sat in the new model once... I love mine, have 53,000 miles on it now. The new ones are even better. AMA.

Driving range EV only does go down in cold weather due to heater use, so there’s that. But what an amazing car. I put in like $20 of gas every 1200 miles or so.

Rear seat on the new one? Any problems on yours?

My Dad swore off Chevrolet a while ago, so I don’t want to sway him into another train wreck.

Rear seat? I’m very tall so I don’t fit behind me, it’s definitely a small car. My kids fit fine though, 7 and 12... I have room to pull the seat forward like two or three notches and don’t keep it all the way back. Rear seats are better in the gen 2 but I didn’t give them a thorough test.

Yes. I just talked to a Volt owner the other day who said he got a warning light saying the fuel in the tank was too old. It kept running the engine until the tank got down to 1/2 full so he could add 6 gallons for new premium.

The grille isn’t anything some high gloss black paint couldn’t fix, thought I think it’d look great to get them color matched to the exterior on a grey, white or blue one.

That’s why I don’t get the complaints about the rear console. To most people small cars are only useful for four passengers anyway, why not have a consol instead? Not to mention on the Volt it was done for functionality.

I’ve yet to speak to a Volt owner who didn’t speak highly of it.
